Endings and
beginnings... Just recently we learned
that Margaret Richardson, one of the founding
members of our association, passed away. Almost 30
years ago, Margaret and a handful of other healthcare
internal audit leaders had a vision--to further the
effectiveness of internal auditing in healthcare
organizations and provide specialized professional
education needs. Their passion and hard work to develop
a plan and set goals to achieve that dream is the reason
AHIA exists today.
Each new year offers the Board of Directors and
Committees a time to reflect on what the Association has
accomplished for its members. The tough economy
that we and our companies faced in 2009 presented a new
challenge for the Association. The result has been new
ways of delivering education and networking
opportunities, such as Webinars, CAE Roundtables, and
Regional Educational
Events.
As we look ahead, AHIA is 1,100 members strong,
making it important to know and act upon what our
members want. The recent Membership Survey has provided
insight into member satisfaction with our services and
benefits and identified some desired new
services/benefits. As the Board and
Committees work to develop and set our goals for
2010, we are motivated to achieve great things for our
members!

Planning a Construction
Audit
February 24, 2010
Presented by Robert S. Bright, President, Talson
Solutions, LLC Watch your email and the AHIA website
as details and registration information become
available!
Participants will be lead through the detailed
process of planning a construction contract audit.
Valuable information regarding the preparation and
scheduling needed for various audit activities will be
discussed. An overview of the kick-off and closeout
meetings, document requests, work plans, contract
abstracts, audit checklists, personnel interviews,
report writing and other audit activities will be
presented. Participants will gain an understanding of
the different types of construction contracts including
GMP and lump sum agreements and the impact on the
planning effort and tasks to be performed. Discussions
will occur relating to the timing of the audit and how
planning for an interim construction contract audit will
differ from planning for a contract closeout audit. The
objective of the webinar is to prepare an individual and
help them gain confidence in the overall management and
execution of a successfully planned construction
audit. |

AHIA is constantly looking to obtain information
that you will find interesting and useful as a

conducting regular, short, member surveys in E-News. We
value your participation.
This month we ask: "What do you think are the
characteristics of a high-performing internal audit
function?" Please take our two-question survey. Next
month you can compare your answers to the summary of
responses from other healthcare internal auditor
participants.
